Date: 1 June 2014 to 1 January 2015

This exhibition is the result of the first oral history project that looks into the previously unexplored history of immigrants of Chinese origin in Bath.

To date, there has been no research done on the subject of Chinese immigrants in Bath, and little trace of Chinese history can be found in Bath.  The project invited ten interviewees to share their stories of their physical journeys from different parts of Asia to Bath, as well as their emotional journeys from being strangers to members of the community here.

The Museum of East Asian Art hopes not only to use this opportunity to initial a development in research materials, but also to further enhance our role of building up a better understanding between East Asian and other communities in the Bath area.

The exhibition presents a 20-minute long film which investigates the history of Chinese immigrants in Bath.  10 interviewees participate in the project and share their stories of their physical journeys from different parts of Asia to Bath as well as their emotional journeys from being strangers to members of the community here.

The video can be viewed here:  http://www.bathontv.co.uk/tracing-the-chinese-history-of-bath/

The project is supported by the Bath and North East Somerset Performance Reward Grant.
