We are delighted to announce we are redeveloping our ground floor gallery into a Discovery Room in early 2025, thanks to support from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

Our vision for the Discovery Room:

  • To create a family-friendly environment where visitors of all ages can learn about the cultures and communities of East Asia.
  • To bring our collection to life through object displays, activities, and trails.
  • To create a space dedicated to learning, creativity and exploration.
  • To fulfil the Museum’s mission of ‘Connecting Cultures, Challenging Perceptions’.

To achieve this, we are making physical improvements to the ground floor:

Improve Accessibility: We will make the space more visitor-friendly by installing new flooring, redecorating and improving signage.

Flexible Design: By improving storage and investing in flexible furniture, we will create a space where we can host Museum activities, including regular family-focused events inspired by the collection.

Timeline

The Museum will be closed from January – March 2025 to complete the refurbishments and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April.
