Salary: £28,000 – £33,000 depending on knowledge and experience

Term: Permanent, with a probationary period of 12 months

Location: Bath, South West England

Closing Date: 23 January 2022

This is an exciting and exceptional opportunity to join our small and dynamic team at The Museum of East Asian Art as our Curator, looking after our extraordinary collection of objects from East and South East Asia. The collection is based on the personal collection of our founder, Brian McElney, and comprises over 2,000 objects spanning 7,000 years of exquisite creativity, mainly from China, and includes ceramics, jades, bronzes, wood and other organic materials.

Along with so many museums we are experiencing a period of great change and, in the context of renewal, we need an innovative and creative Curator who can join us on the exciting journey to reimagine our Museum. The Reimagining Project is a long-term vision to utilise our resources differently and in a more sustainable and resilient way. We need someone who will embrace this journey, with the knowledge and insight to help us meet our vision of connecting cultures and challenge perceptions in ways that make us more relevant and responsive to our audiences in this ever-changing environment.

A collaborative approach to working is crucial, so while you will be responsible for managing the collections and developing exhibitions, you will also be working very closely with all members of the team and, in particular, the Audience Engagement Team on interpretation and identifying and delivering appropriate activities and events to enrich the visitor experience.

We are committed to equal opportunities and diversity and welcome applicants whatever your personal characteristics or social identity. So, if you are excited about collecting, researching, interpreting and making our collections accessible to the public through exhibitions and displays, with the aim of helping us deliver our vision, and are eager to contribute to the future redevelopment of the whole Museum, we would love to hear from you!
