Tiffany Wai-Ying Beres
This talk given by Sheung’s granddaughter, the art historian Tiffany Wai-Ying Beres, will explore the art and life of Nancy Sheung, one of the pioneering photographers of Asia.
Nancy Sheung (Sheung Waichun 常惠珍 (1914-1979) was a Hong Kong photographer with a strong eye for capturing space and form. A mother, socialite and entrepreneur, Nancy Sheung was a dynamic and inspirational woman. Although she was well into her forties by the time she picked up a camera, Sheung’s singular eye and experience gave her a unique take on the quintessence of Hong Kong life. Over the course of twenty years she built an oeuvre of images that are as socially powerful as they are visually poetic.
Tiffany Wai-Ying Beres is an Asian contemporary art specialist and art historian. She has worked as a curator and exhibition planner with museums and institutions around the world.
