Join Dr Theresa Munford, Chinese literature teacher, for this opportunity to explore Chinese poetry from the Tang Dynasty (618 – 906). Each week we will introduce a Chinese poet and explore one of their poems. We will uncover the poem’s language, imagery, and symbolism, illustrated by objects in the Museum’s collection. No previous experience or knowledge of Chinese language is required.
Workshop 4: Du Fu
In our fourth poetry workshop we will be exploring the life and work of Du Fu (712 – 770), looking at his poem ‘Spring Scene’. Du Fu’s life was torn apart by war and rebellion and his poems of loss, exile and the sorrows of ordinary people have become treasured classics down the centuries. The poem that we will look at in this workshop takes us deep into the topic of nostalgia and sorrow.
Previous event participants have described this workshop as:
“One of the best online museum activities I have attended, both for learning content and technical presentation”
“[Theresa] was extremely knowledgeable and conducted the session in the perfect manner – scholarly but not too formal”.
