Date: 7 September 2022
Time: 19:00 - 20:15
Location: Museum Gallery
Admission: £5 Booking required. Max 15 people.

In 2014 the Museum completed an oral history project ‘Eastern Voices in the West Country’ which aimed to encourage cultural understanding amongst local communities and unveil the unexplored history of Chinese immigrants to Bath. The project captured personal stories of 11 immigrants from Chinese heritage who call Bath their home.

Christina Chow, originally from Singapore, was one of the participants in the project and generously shared her experience while settling in the UK. After the project, Christina went on a journey of rediscovery and reconnected with the history of her maternal family. The book ‘Red Packet with 20¢’ is the result of her quest into her family history and heritage.

We will briefly revisit the ‘Eastern Voices’ project and listen to Christina’s stories of family rediscovery. In the last part of the event, we will invite past project participants Shane Xin Carnell-Xu and Jake Xu, and Caroline Frances-King, our Museum Manager, to join us in conversation with Christina to explore the meaning of family heritage and the concept of ‘immigration’.

There will be a limited number of copies of Christina’s book available to purchase at the event, with all proceeds going to the Museum. This event is part of the ‘East and South East Heritage Month’.
