Incense is traditionally used in a wide range of Chinese cultural activities from religious ceremonies, worshipping ancestors, traditional medicine and in daily life. Incense culture and the development of incense ceremonies reached its height during the Song Dynasty, with nobles enjoying it as a popular pastime.
Join us to discover a brief history of incense in China, how it was used historically and in modern times. We will take a look at the incense burners in the Museum’s collection during this talk. Attendees also have a chance to witness how an incense ceremony is conducted, and sample different incenses.

Please note: the event is being held at Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution (BRLSI), 16 – 18 Queen Square, Bath BA1 2HN
